Porlock, a charming village in Somerset, and Porlock Weir, a quiet little harbour nearby, are both very popular centres for walkers.

The name means 'locked port (closed harbour)'

Walk 1 Porlock Weir to Culbone church (5.0 miles)

Splendid Views of Bristol Channel

A great 5 mile (dog) hike through woods & along spectacular cliffs with extensive views.

The Walk

A From the car park facing inland turn right towards Porlock Weir's harbour. Turn left onto a Footpath.

B Follow Coastal Footpath up the hill . At the lane turn right. After a minute turn left onto a footpath and continue uphill and follow path with stream on your right.

C After 0.9 of a mile turn left at the lane, then continue for about 4 minutes and turn right onto Yearnor Mill Lane.

D You are now following part of the Coleridge Way , named after the poet Coleridge. Continue along this undulating lane for about 30 minutes with magnificent views of the coast.

E At the fingerpost , where the road bends towards Silcombe Farm , turn right to rejoin the coastal path.

F Just before you enter the woods you will see a footpath on right. Turn right then In about half a mile you reach Cusbone Church where the wedding scene in Lorna Doone was filmed - for the 'real' Lorna Doone church click here.

G Retrace your steps then take the South West Coast Path back to Porlock Weir.

Walk 2 Porlock (5.4 miles)

Difficulty:

Porlock

This popular but somewhat strenuous 5 mile hike starts from Porlock's Main Park and follows public footpaths and some quiet lanes.

It includes two steepish climbs.
