Mapsource Tips Clearing Cache Press CTRL G twice to clear cache. Selecting all 'img maps' When a screen consists of muliple img maps it is often difficult to 'select all' as some are hidden behind others.Just select the Map Tool and click & drag creating a sizeable rectangle on the screen - this will select all hidden maps. New Mapsource Uploader Our most popular Mapsource Uploader for Windows has been designed to upload an OSM map to Mapsource and onto your Garmin without having to deal with scripts. Java and mkgmap.jar need to be installed on your pc. (Java, it's free, mkgmap.jar , it's free as well) If your not interested in Mapsource or do not have a copy of the program, you can download Garmin's Basecamp for free. It some respects it's better at rendering your styles but doesn't allow for uploading to a garmin. There are 6 steps to follow: 1) Locate an OSM map. The program creates a unique mapname, so Mapsource won't be confused. 2) Select your Style. Styles determine which POIs , highways or polygons are to be rendered in Mapsource ,ie. the default style does not render post-boxes,stiles,traffic lights, orchards etc . Select the routable option to create a routable map. This only works if your style is routable. If not, perhaps use our Route Editor to quickly create a routable style. Click Transparent if you wish this map to become a transparent layer - useful if you have other (contour) img files covering the same area. You can skip step 2 if you're not bothered about styles and just want to use the basic default settings. 3) Select a unique Family ID . You can skip this stage as the program allocates a unique ID not found in the Mapsource section of the register. 4) Set Layer Priority The lower the layer, the earlier the rendering, useful for importing multiple imgs ,ie contour, river, building or woodland layers - see OS vector maps for importing buildings, rivers, forests etc. Note: Your Garmin renders each layer properly, unlike Mapsource. 5) Create IMG & Upload to Mapsource This will turn your osm or mp file into an img. using mkgmap.jar & GPSMapEdit (free download) to import the img file into Mapsource. 6) In GPSMapEdit select a TYP file For a more detailed description download the manual. Latest Mapsource Uploader is compatible with Windows 7 64x. and can upload mp files as well. You can bypass step 5 by ticking the gmapsupp option and selecting a TYP file - FIDs are adjusted automatically. Download Mapsource Uploader 64 February Beta .45 Note: on some pcs you may need to rightclick on icon -->properties --> compatibility Windows95 or 98. |
