Woodbury & Woodbury Castle
 

Woodbury apparently takes its name from the earthwork known as Woodbury Castle. This was "the wooden fort" or "the fort in the woods."

This rural walk starts on the outskirts of the village and takes you past the entrance to what used to be an estate owned by Nigel Mansell ;it follows a track through his golf course and leads to the wild expanse of the Common and along Woodbury Castle. There are some spectacular views of the Exe estuary.
