It is difficult to imagine that the Victorians had built a railway to transport stones from a mine beyond this picture - part of it has survived .

Even a short tunnel through Salcombe Hill was bored but proved too small for the steam engine!
However, it is said that the train was put to good use giving rides along the promenade!
