Jane Austen visited Lyme Regis twice and loved to walk to "the Cobb, skirting round the pleasant little bay, which, in the season, is animated with bathing machines and company."

 A most invigorating walk to Uplyme involving some steep hills, passing the Talbot Arms in Uplyme.


It follows part of the Liberty Trail & East Devon Way.
There are several ways of doing this walk , depending on which Car Park you use. - both are en route and less than £2 for whole day parking.
a) Walk in land exploring historic Lyme Regis at the end.
b) Walk to Lyme Regis , then inland.
Do Not Park in Lyme Regis - it's expensive and access is poor.
  Plenty of pubs , tea places & shops in Lyme.


Jane Austen and her parents stayed at Lyme in 1804 although she couldn't swim she enjoyed the freedom of walking on the cobb and referred to the experience in Persuasion.
The museum has a special section devoted to her visit.
There is one steep climb.
