It's quite remarkable that during WWII this area had an 'airstrip' lit up at night as a decoy for Exeter Airport.

A short and easy dog walk to several ponds full of insects - a photographer's dream!
The route uses well defined tracks and offers stunning views of Mutter's Moor and the sea.

 This is a very popular walk through two commons,Harpford & Ayledbeare.
During the winter , wellies are recommended as the public footpath through the woods follows a stream and can be quite muddy.
Please note the busy A3052 has to be crossed twice.

This walk starts near the Aylesbeare Inn (unfortunately pub is closed) and gently climbs up to the Common where the views are quite stunning.
There is one steepish climb.
