A From Exeter's historic quay cross the Cricklepit (suspension) bridge ,turn right and head towards Tommy's home ,3 Fords Road. B A plaque donated by Jimmy Tarbuck, used to be attached to the house .On it were the words:
From here, head towards the Exeter Canal and turn right aiming for the Welcome Inn. C Just before the Inn turn left and cross canal and river to join a path following the canal bank. D Turn left towards Exeter and continue past Trew's Weir Paper Mills on your right. You'll see a weir on your left, built to ensure sufficient depth for boats to dock. Turn right into Weirfield Road and climb to Topsham Road ,a Roman Road, cross using zebra crossing ,turn left then right into Barnardo Road. From here an old iron bridge use to span Topsham Road to link up with the church. E Continue then turn left into St Leonards Road. After roughly 100 metres you have arrived at Tommy's old Mount Radford school on left . Notice the plaque on right. Continue along St Leonards Road and turn left into Wonford Road. Turn right where it joins Mount Radford Crescent. FContinue towards the inner bypass then turn left into Fairpark Road. After 100 meters turn right down a footway that leads to a park. Turn left and at the end turn right into a path through the park to Lansdowne Terrace. Cross Topsham Road into Melbourne Street and enter a very old part of Exeter not damaged by WWII bombs. G Continue and turn into Colleton Crescent with its magnificent collection of Georgian houses and spectacular views of the Exeter Quay & Canal. Turn left into Watergate , a small service road then take a footpath and steps past the Prospect Inn to return to the quays. |
